Laser hair removal procedure

Laser hair removal uses a high-energy beam of light to effectively kill hair follicles while leaving surrounding tissue undamaged. This is possible because the pigments present in the hair follicles selectively absorb the energy of the laser.

You will need to wear protective eyewear. Only a few minutes are needed to treat most areas. Ice packs may be used to prevent inflammation, speed-up recovery, and provide pain relief. Sunscreen should be used to protect your skin after treatment.

FAQs

Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a concentrated beam of light (laser) to remove unwanted hair. During laser hair removal, a laser emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair, which destroys the hair follicle. In the past, only people with dark hair and light skin could safely have laser hair removal. Today, laser hair removal is a treatment option for most hair and skin tones, except for blond hair or gray hair.

Yes, it can be done anywhere on the body, including sensitive areas.

There is some discomfort but everyone is different when it comes to individual pain levels. Laser hair removal falls somewhere between shaving (painless) and waxing (painful). The RN laser tech uses a cooling air system to the area to help with any discomfort. Many patients state that it feels like being snapped by a rubber band.

Laser hair removal is quick and efficient. Each pulse of the laser takes a fraction of a second and can treat many hairs at the same time. Small areas such as the upper lip and chin can be treated in a few minutes while larger areas like legs and back take about 30 mins.

Most patients have great results after an average of 4-6 treatment sessions. In some cases, more sessions are needed.

The cost can vary from from $50-$2000 depending on the treatment area. Small areas cost less than larger areas.

Yes it can be safely performed during your menstrual cycle. It is important to stay consistent with your treatment schedule.

If you don't shave before your appointment, the laser will singe the hair and burn the skin. In addition, if the hair hasn't been shaved properly, treatment will not be as effective. If the area has not been properly shaved, your treatment may need to be rescheduled.

Stubble, representing dead hair being shed from the hair follicle, will usually appear within 5-30 days from the treatment date. That is normal & they will fall out quickly. You may exfoliate the area to speed up hair shedding.

Wait at least 3-4 days after your treatment to avoid irritating the skin. You may notice some hair shedding shortly after your treatment.

Laser hair removal is contraindicated while taking Accutane or blood thinners, if you have a current herpes outbreak, have keloid scars, and with pregnancy and breastfeeding. Topical retinoids must be discontinued prior to each treatment.

Avoid strenuous exercise, sun exposure, and hot showers after each treatment session.
