Acne is a common complaint amongst teenagers and adults alike. It is formed when bacteria, dead skin cells, and oil clog your pores, resulting in a breakout. If you are experiencing active acne, we recommend working with one of our naturopathic doctors to get to the root cause of your breakouts. Acne blemishes can often leave behind scarring and pigmentation, and we offer treatments that can reduce the appearance of acne scars.
Microneedling, a collagen induction technique is one of the best treatments for acne scars. This method uses small needles to perforate the skin, to stimulate collagen production that can smooth scars. A topical numbing cream is used before the procedure for comfort.
There are different treatment options for varying types and severity of scarring:
We use the SkinPen for classic microneedling with hyaluronic acid, platelets and/or growth factors. Your doctor will discuss options and help you decide which treatment is right for your skin type.
Radiofrequency has all of the benefits of classic microneedling, with the addition of radiofrequency energy. Adding radiofrequency can mean faster results and may reduce the number of treatments needed. It also provides the added benefit of lifting and tightening the skin.
Our doctors specialize in natural, non-toxic skincare to treat acne and acne scars. If needed, a customized prescription from a compounding pharmacy is utilized. Your doctor will create a personalized skincare regimen based on your skin concerns and goals.
At Spark Health, we provide you with the highest quality personalized skincare and aesthetic treatments that leave your skin glowing, tighter and smoother.
Microneedling can be done on any skin type and color. It should not be done on patients on blood thinners, with active acne or skin cancer on the face, or who are pregnant or breastfeeding. It should not be done if a patient has taken Accutane in the last 6 months, has open lesions, or has a current Herpes Simplex outbreak.
Avoid dermal fillers for 4 weeks before your procedure. It is recommended to avoid any skin exfoliants or vitamin A topical products 3-5 days prior.
Downtime is very minimal. You can expect to be red with some sensitivity the day of your appointment. Most people will choose to avoid any social events or activities after treatment. You will appear lightly sunburned for 2-5 days. You may also experience dry or flaky skin for up to a week.
